Análisis de las capacidades tecnológicas de Corea del Sur en electrónica y telecomunicaciones (1999-2019)

Resumen

Corea del Sur se transformó de una nación agraria en la década de 1970, a un país industrializado gracias al impulso de sus exportaciones tecnológicas. Las políticas industriales iniciadas en la década de 1980 prepararon la ruta para una economía basada en el conocimiento, donde las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones (TIC) se han convertido en el principal motor de la actividad innovadora en Corea. En este trabajo se examina la construcción de las capacidades tecnológicas del país mediante el análisis de las patentes solicitadas por el Tratado de Cooperación de Patentes (PCT) en el campo de la electrónica y las telecomunicaciones entre 1999 y 2019. Se concluye que el diseño de políticas de fomento a la innovación fue particularmente exitoso en las áreas de semiconductores, redes de comunicación, televisión y telefonía móvil.

Humberto Merritt, Instituto Politécnico Nacional

Doctor en Política Científica y Tecnológica por el Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) de la Universidad de Sussex en Brighton, Reino Unido. Maestro en Economía por El Colegio de México y Licenciado en Economía por la UAM Iztapalapa. Es profesor de tiempo completo en el Instituto Politécnico Nacional de México y ha sido investigador visitante en la Universidad de Amberes, Bélgica, la Universidad de Lund, Suecia y la Universidad Estatal de Portland en EEUU. Su área de especialización es la economía de la innovación y el conocimiento. Tiene publicaciones sobre el impacto de las nuevas tecnologías en la economía y la sociedad; la vinculación academia-empresa; el papel de los centros de investigación en la innovación industrial, así como sobre el efecto del cambio tecnológico en el empleo y sobre la relación tecnológica-comercial entre Corea del Sur, México y Latinoamérica. Es Investigador Nacional Nivel I del CONACyT de México.
